Abstract
Polyelectrolyte multilayers deposited onto particles are exploited as thin films for localizing sol-gel reactions of inorganic precursors at particle surfaces, yielding core-shell colloids with defined shell thicknesses. The image shows silica colloids coated with a polyelectrolyte/titania shell.
