Managing depression and suicide risk in men presenting to primary care physicians

Abstract

Primary care physicians may be crucial to saving the lives of men like Mike. In combination, their availability, trusted position, and rapport with patients may mean that they are the first point of contact when those in Mike's situation reach a point of crisis. By honing their skills in detection, diagnosis, and management of depression and suicide risk, they can realize their potential to make a difference in the fight against the rising suicide rate in men. © 2006 Elsevier Inc.
