Multilayer assemblies of silica-encapsulated gold nanoparticles on decomposable colloid templates

The preparation of core-shell and hollow colloid spheres derived from Au@SiO2 nanoparticles by using the LbL self-assembly technique was described. As such, the importance of silica shell on the performed Au nanoparticles in preparing these new composite colloidal entities were demonstrated. In turn, the strategy outlined opens new avenues to the production of a novel class of metal-containing core-sell and hollow colloids with tunable optical properties.
