Irrigation networks: A system engineering approach

Abstract

An attempt is made to explore how information derived from the SCADA system can be used to achieve the understanding of the dynamics of the irrigation systems to the point that the-on-demand management regime may be approximately implemented. First, the on-demand control objective is restated within the context of open canal water distribution. Second, control and management options are described. Third, a concise discussion of the preliminary results of a substantial pilot project in Victoria, Australia is given.
