Wavelength-selectable-injection-locking scheme for multiwavelength 10-GHz optical pulse generation

We have developed a scheme to generate multiwave-length short pulses by injection-locking of a Fabry-Pérot laser diode with spectrally broadened and comb-filtered distributed feedback (DFB) laser pulses. Tunable five-wavelength 10-GHz pulses have been successfully generated from our scheme. The number of output wavelengths is adjustable by controlling the spectral width of the DFB injection input through the amount of self-phase modulation in a dispersion-shifted fiber. The generation scheme also benefits from its tolerance to wavelength drift of the injection source. A 10-GHz eye measurement has been performed and an output extinction ratio of 15.6 dB is obtained. © 2005 IEEE.
