Abstract
This paper explores the analysis of a number of manuscripts held in the Middle Eastern Manuscripts at the University of Melbourne. It describes the materials and techniques used in the construction of these manuscripts, provides a context to the study and the use of Raman in this investigation, and demonstrates the value and limitations of Raman spectroscopy as a tool for non-destructive analysis of pigments in manuscripts. This study also linked to materials and techniques studies to describe the historical context for the production of these manuscripts.
