Contact lens-related acanthamoeba keratitis in a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a case of contact lens-related Acanthamoeba keratitis associated with improper lens hygiene in a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). METHODS: Contact lens-related Acanthamoeba keratitis was diagnosed in a 58-year-old man with a history of CFS. After medical management failed to prevail, a penetrating keratoplasty was performed in the affected eye. RESULTS: There was no recurrence of Acanthamoeba keratitis after surgery. Complete re-epithelialization of the graft was observed with a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/80 in the operated eye at the last follow-up (3 months).
