Sonochemical synthesis of Au-Ag core-shell bimetallic nanoparticles

Au-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by the sonochemical co-reduction of Au(III) and Ag(I) ions in aqueous solutions. TEM images indicate that the co-reduction of Au(III) and Ag(I) produces bimetallic nanoparticles with a Au core-Ag shell morphology. It is suggested that the formation of core-shell morphology is due to the reduction order of the metal ions and the involvement of a polymer-Ag ion complex. © 2008 American Chemical Society.
