Robert Vyent Stick: A colourful character

Abstract

The special issue of the CSIRO Journal was introduced during a symposium held on September 18, 2008 to honor the retiring professor Robert (Bob) Vyent Stick. The special issue dealt with carbohydrates and provided an overview of Bob's career in two parts. The first part included a summary of his career and research efforts, while the second part focused on an interview with Bob that provided information about career and the changing nature of research and teaching in universities in Australia. The participants were informed that he focused on synthetic carbohydrate chemistry early on during his independent career.
