Abstract
This chapter outlines the principles governing the availability, quantum of, and limitations upon damages for breach of contract in the Indian Contract Act 1872 ('the Contract Act'). Section 73 of the Contract Act is a short and simple attempt to codify the common law principles regarding damages for breach of contract.It came with eighteen illustrations explaining how contract damages are to be calculated in various circumstances . Although the illustrations are not presented in a logical order , this chapter seeks to rationalize them so as to make them helpful to practitioners and scholars.
