Abstract

Oncomegas aetobatidis sp. nov. (Trypanorhyncha: Eutetrarhynchidae) is described from the spiral valve of the dasyatid ray Aetobatus narinari (Euphrasen, 1790) from the Arafura Sea, Northern Territory. The new species is most closely related to O. australiensis Toth, Campbell and Schmidt, 1992 in the number of files of hooks in the metabasal region of the tentacular armature and the presence of post-ovarian testes, but differs in overall dimensions, in the size of the macro-hook in the basal armature and in the number of testes.
