Abstract

This paper presents results of numerical simulations of air blast loading on structures using AUTODYN® and LS-DYNA®. A generic case of air blast loading on a steel plate was simulated and numerical models were compared with experimental results. The predictions for the final maximum deformation of the steel plate were 122 mm and 110 mm using AUTODYN and LS-DYNA respectively, compared with an experimental deformation of 120 mm. It is believed that the main reason that the AUTODYN model provided a more accurate result is that a finer mesh was used compared to the LS-DYNA model.
