Abstract

Salim Lakha and Pradeep Taneja focus on democracy, governance and civil society in India and the contributions of different authors on related subjects in the journal. The economic changes introduced in the wake of the foreign exchange crisis of 1991 accelerated India's integration into the global economy, but at the same time increased the country's vulnerability to external developments. India faces multiple challenges revolving around class, caste and identity.
