Abstract

Bragg intensities from zinc selenide, cadmium selenide, cadmium sulphide and gallium arsenide crystals illustrate the excellent internal consistency of x-ray Bragg intensities measured with extended-face crystals. Applying this technique to measurements of the Bijvoet ratios of zinc selenide as a function of x-ray wavelength between 0.6 and 1.6, a region which includes the absorption edges of Zn and Se, showed that the measured and calculated Bijvoet ratios exhibited systematic discrepancies which at the time were difficult to interpret. Starting in the 1990s, techniques were developed for the accurate measurement of x-ray attenuation coefficients which allowed careful testing, avoidance or ..
