Abstract
The hetero-Diels-Alder reaction can provide spiroketal systems with excellent stereoselectivity. This perspective article will briefly outline the scope and limitations of this approach for the production of naturally occurring spiroketals and derivatives. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2009.
