Abstract
Johanna Wyn argues that there is a need for a sociological approach in relation to young people and family. The nexus between youth sociology and policy is a space where normative assumptions about the social meaning of age and the significance of intergenerational relationships need to be challenged. It is potentially a space into which the sociology of youth can contribute new thinking about the social meanings of age, the impact of social change on family relationships, generational consciousness and intergenerational relationships.
