Abstract
A multiscale structured material consisting of dual phases of Ti and Al was processed by severe plastic deformation. An elemental powder mixture of Ti-47 at.% Al was mechanically milled to produce particles with two finely dispersed phases, then consolidated using equal channel angular pressing. Microstructure observations revealed a sophisticated organisation of micro- and nanoscaled Ti and Al phases embedded in each other. This unique structure led to significantly enhanced strength with good plasticity. © 2011 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
