Control of the broken river

Abstract

In this paper, a control system design is proposed for the Broken River in Victoria, Australia. The control scheme is decentralised, and consists of a number of local PI and P controllers. The controllers are designed using frequency response techniques based on simple models obtained using system identification methods. In a simulation example, the control system compared very favorably with current manual operation demonstrating a significant potential for substantial water savings. © 2011 IFAC.
