Introduction A steady improvement in ART delivery rates, better access to care, and the relative ineffectiveness of other treatment options has made ART the mainstay of infertility treatment. At the current time, more than 1% of all children born in the USA, Europe and Australia are from ART-related conceptions. A major advance in infertility treatment was the ability to perform controlled ovarian superovulation in the patient. This resulted in the availability of numerous embryos per treatment cycle and the transfer of multiple embryos in an attempt to increase pregnancy rates. However, the price for this is the subsequent potential for a multiple pregnancy.
