The Australian Educational Leader | Australian Council for Educational Leaders | Published : 2012
Over the last twenty-five years or so, a new approach to understanding successful organisations has emerged. Rather than being based on theoretical approaches, researchers have turned to the organisations and managers themselves to try to understand the characteristics of success for long term 'winning' or 'excellent' organisations. Using the practical assessments of experienced managers and analysts, researchers have then attempted to form integrated, holistic frameworks that explain this success. This article builds on this empirical approach to identify the common elements that underpin the long-term performance of Australia's top performing organisations.
