Targeted therapy in prostate cancer

Abstract

The therapeutic approach to advanced prostate cancer has seen greater changes in the last 7 years than it did in the preceding 70. Although only one of the newly approved agents that improve overall survival is a targeted agent, it is a validation of the method of pathway analysis and drug design in delivering novel, clinically usable agents. As our knowledge of the molecular circuitry of tumour invasion, metastases and treatment resistance has become more refined, the number of new, potentially useful, targets has grown exponentially.
