Abstract
In this paper fiber optic distribution schemes that can support 60 GHz wireless personal area networks (WPANs) are presented. In particular RF over fiber (RFoF) transport that can potentially reduce the complexity of the 60 GHz wireless access points (WAPs) and also enable these terminals to support the IEEE 802.15.3c WPAN standard as well as alternative 60 GHz wireless network protocols are focused on. Several dispersion tolerant RFoF 60 GHz distribution schemes and present some investigations of these architectures are discussed. It is shown that RFoF technology is very applicable to 60 GHz WPANs. © 2011 Engineers Australia.
