Sensing places' life to make city smarter

Abstract
This paper explores the smart city concept and proposes an innovative way of sensing urban places' life using aggregation of devices sensors (cameras...) and human sensors (VGI, geosocial networks) datasets. The paper also discusses the need of an enabling geospatial information platform to facilitate data discovery and access in order to support smart cities' operations. Indeed, in this context, Spatial Data Infrastructure plays an important role and acts as an enabling platform linking governments authoritative spatial information with crowd sourced, voluntary information initiatives. © 2012 ACM.
