Abstract

A glass panel struck by hailstones or projectiles is subject to concentrated forces. The strength of the glass panel in probabilistic terms is normally obtained by calibrating the values of theWeibull parameters against experimental test data. This conventional approach of probabilistic modelling can be obscured by the paucity of representative data and the difficulty to perform an exhaustive parameter study. This paper presents results from a series of point-load tests aimed to characterise the performance of simply-supported glass panels subject to quasi-static and low-rate concentrated action. The results were found to agree with theWeibull statistic reasonably well. In order to make an i..
