Abstract

OBJECTIVES:: During high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, an understanding of the relationship between lung volume and lung mechanics may help clinicians better apply ventilation. The objectives of this study were: 1) to describe the relationship between lung volume and lung function parameters during mapping of the deflation limb of the pressure-volume relationship in infants receiving high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, and 2) to determine whether these parameters might be useful in targeting an optimal volume to apply ventilation. DESIGN:: Observational physiological study. SETTING:: Tertiary neonatal intensive care unit in a pediatric hospital. PATIENTS:: Fifteen infants receiving ..
