Abstract

This chapter investigates the nature of and association between visuospatial memory, and, separately, visuospatial working memory in adolescent onset schizophrenia. The data presented suggest that both the visuospatial memory and working memory performance of the adolescent-onset schizophrenia group are impaired compared to the healthy control group. Further, the type and magnitude of the deficits are similar to those reported in the adult-onset schizophrenia patients suggesting these deficits are developmental stage independent. The import of these findings is examined within the context of emerging neurobiological models of progressive parietal-temporal-frontal linked neural network dysfun..
