Contralateral recurrence of testicular tumor: Which patients need biopsy at initial presentation?

Abstract

Metachronous testicular tumor poses a significant challenge to urologists and the role of testicular biopsy at the time of initial presentation is controversial. We describe a teaching case report which highlights these issues and describe current guidelines regarding management in such cases. A 29-year-old man presented to our department with left sided testicular pain. Previously he had undergone right sided radical orchidectomy for seminoma and subsequently received 2 injections of carboplatin chemotherapy.
