Abstract
Abstract The interaction between religion and politics is a matter of urgent concern well into the early part of the twenty‐first century, principally because of the apparent revival of enthusiasm for religion in many parts of the world and the widespread belief that this revival poses a threat to democracy and political stability more generally. This threat is seen as coming not only from extremist Islamic jihadists but also from some democratic leaders with strong Christian commitments, of whom George W. Bush was a prime example.
