Methodology of studying intonation: from data collection to data analysis

Abstract

AbstractThis chapter describes the methodology of studying intonation from data collection (in the lab and in the field) to data analysis within the Autosegmental-Metrical model of intonational phonology. For data analysis, the chapter provides ways to characterize intonational tunes in terms of distinctive tonal categories and prosodic structure.
