This chapter is a broad overview of adhesive or tooth-coloured restorative materials currently used in dental practice. The materials introduced are resin composites, polyacid-modified resin composites or compomers and glass ionomer cements (GIC). The different classifications of each of these materials are described. Brief outlines are provided of their physical properties, the effect of biofilm formation on each of the materials, as well as current research data on the clinical use of the materials.
