In this issue of Blood, Schaniel and colleagues demonstrate that combined disruption of canonical and noncanonical Wnt signaling in the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) niche results in a loss of quiescent HSCs and exhaustion of their self-renewal capacity in young adult mice under conditions of systemic stress.
