Planning for transport is closely related to land-use planning and urban development. Urban planning can create opportunities to use viable alternatives to the private car. Conversely, it can encourage greater car reliance. So careful urban planning increases transport advantages and reduces its environmental, social, and economic disadvantages; and without land- planning and transport planning integration, achieving transport sustainability is impossible.
