Designing Graduates: Remodelling Undergraduate Study In New Media

Abstract

New technologies and the changing economic environment have driven significant changes in tertiary education over the last twenty years. One of the most visible shifts has been toward an emphasis on "applied" knowledge. While this emphasis is often associated with what Grubb calls "the new vocationalism", the changes are more than just a response to industrialist pressures, and are related to developments in media, evidence-based medicine, and professional education. Taken as a whole, these shifts call into question the traditional separation between the sciences, humanities, and applied bodies of knowledge.
