Abstract

In this study, the aging and yielding properties of a lyotropic liquid crystal phase undergoing shear induced structures transition are uncovered. Once transformed, the studied material is shown to acquire all the macroscopic properties of the so-called soft jammed systems. Based on the analysis of inertial coupling effects in creep measurements, it is shown that the long-time behavior of the investigated system can be predicted by a simple evaluation of its elasticity at short times. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.
