Reflections on text design in teaching Chinese as a second language

This article seeks to explore ways to improve teaching Chinese as a second language by proposing a number of approaches are carefully weighed in relation to text design. These include the use of pinyin and other Latin alphabet-based writing system, form fixing to code prosody and grammatical information, as well as coding of semantic function and grammar.
