The advent of modern techniques for the correction of facial deformity has allowed oral and maxillofacial surgeons to routinely perform facial bone osteotomies to correct facial deformities and malocclusions. As these techniques have become more commonplace there is an ever increasing need for accuracy to fulfil the expectations of patients, orthodontists, and surgeons. Attention to detail is 'the name of the game'. This paper will highlight points of detail in the preparation, planning, and execution of facial bone osteotomies to improve the outcome for patients with facial deformities.
