Invasive group A streptococcal infection

Abstract

Since the late 1980s there has been a worldwide increase both in the incidence and in the severity of group A streptococcal infection. This review focuses on the interaction of bacterial virulence factors with the host immune system and how this influences the pathogenesis of invasive group A streptococcal disease.
