Abstract
Many existing colour vision tests do not assess losses in saturation and luminance discrimination, some involve complex figure/ground judgements whereas others need a substantial motor component for their completion. We describe a test of colour saturation and luminance thresholds that employs a simple discriminatory task and motor-free paradigm. Results obtained on ten young and eight older normal controls, 12 congenital colour defectives and 11 patients with age related maculopathy indicated that the new test was capable of detecting congenital and acquired colour vision deficiencies, it could also differentiate between red-green and blue-yellow defects.
