Abstract
With neuropsychiatric disorders, in particular HIV associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) being highly prevalent within the HIV population furthering our understanding of the underlying causes of HIV neuropathogenesis will be imperative to potentially identifying novel targets for treatment. While our understanding of the mechanisms associated with HIV neurotoxicity have increased substantially in the last decade, further work is needed in order to characterise the behaviour of the virus within the central nervous system (CNS), in particular how it remains latent within cells that are incapable of productive infection.
