Feasibility and stability of metaraminol in pre-filled syringes

Abstract

Background:Meta raminollO mg/mL injection i s often diluted with sodium chlorid e 0.9% and pre-drawn intosy ringes by a n aesthctists for use in the management of intraoperative hypotensive crisis. The 10 mg/mL ampoule presentation poses a significant safety hazard since the entil'e content needs to be drawn into a syringe and then diluted so that 0.5 mgdoses may bead ministered. There have been incidents where 10 mgrather than the intended 0.5 mghave been administered to the patient.
