Direct numerical simulation of turbulent flow with an impedance condition

A previous numerical study of jet noise problem shows that the strongest sound radiation is due to the noise from the nozzle. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a preliminary study aimed at suppressing the internally generated noise using a canonical acoustic liner model. The time domain model developed by Tam and Auriault is implemented in an inhouse DNS solver. A number of subsonic pipe flow simulations are conducted in order to verify the acoustic attenuation due to the presence of the acoustic liner. The preliminary results show a good agreement with classic eigenvalue solutions and attenuation of plane waves inside the pipe present in hard wall is found.
