Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the processes and mechanisms responsible for the extraction of metal ions from aqueous solution using solvent based chelating reagents. A review of the various techniques for the measurements of extraction kinetics is presented. The different techniques described include quiescent interface apparatus, rapidly stirred cells, the rotating diffusion cell, the single drop technique stopped flow technique using miscellar systems, and ATR spectroscopy. The concluding part of the paper describes the role of interfacial phenomena in liquid-liquid extraction kinetic processes.
