Mycalone: A new steroidal lactone from a southern Australian marine sponge, Mycale sp

Abstract

Mycalone (1), a new steroid incorporating a novel six-membered lactone side chain, has been isolated from a southern Australian marine sponge, Mycale sp. The gross structure for mycalone (1) was secured by spectroscopic analysis, and the stereochemistry established by a single-crystal X-ray structure determination.
