Abstract

The stated aim of this book was, and remains, to encourage dialogue between university mathematicians and members of the mathematics education community in an attempt to overcome what was perceived as a growing division between the two communities. From this perspective of further developing their mutual willingness to do so through their attempts to understand and to respect the diversity of opinion, it is clear that a great deal of effort has been made on the part of all symposium participants.
