Danielle Howe is an interdisciplinary feminist scholar, with a background in public health and social policy, and her research focuses on reproductive health, disability and system-level thinking. She is particularly interested in how gender-related health inequities intersect aspects of our lives and systemically reinforce gender inequity.

Danielle’s doctoral research, Endo@Work (now available as a free resource: EveryBodyatWork.org) co-designed, implement and evaluated a workplace guidelines and policy to support people with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain at work. A key contribution of Danielle’s work was her examination of how endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain are experienced within social and institutional contexts and how they are rendered disabling within contemporary systems, including healthcare and employment. Her application of feminist queer crip theory, advanced the argument that endometriosis should be understood not only as a medical disorder, but as one that is socially and structurally disabling. More broadly her research critically engages with how norms, policies, and institutional practices shape experiences of illness, access to care, and participation in everyday life.

Danielle brings nearly a decade of industry experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning across community and international development sectors across Australia, Canada, the UK, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Zambia, and Bangladesh. She has a strong track record of working collaboratively with stakeholders across community, policy, and practice settings to co-design and implement evidence-based initiatives.

Danielle’s work centres lived experience and draws on qualitative and mixed methods approaches to develop practical approaches that improve health and wellbeing outcomes. She cares deeply about reproductive, menstrual and public health as drivers for gender equity. Especially focusing on how we can shift systems to better support people whose health needs have historically been ignored or misunderstood.
