Clare Newton is an architect and Doctor of Education. She is an Associate Professor in Learning Environments and was a founding member of the Learning Environments Applied Research Network (LEaRN).

Clare was first-named Chief Investigator on two Australian Research Council LInkage Projects, Smart Green Schools and Future Proofing Schools. Future Proofing Schools included partners from six education departments around Australia which facilitated the establishment of PrefabAUS, Australia's first peak body for prefabrication. Clare is the immediate past Chair of the Hallmark Ageing Research Initiative (HARI) and teaches Design for Ageing within the Masters of Ageing. Clare has led or participated on fourteen additional multidisciplinary research grants and is currently a Chief Investigator on a four-year $2M ARC Linkage Project, Innovative Learning Spaces and Teacher Change (ILETC) and a three-year $1M ARC Linkage Project, Building Connections: Schools as Community Hubs. Clare has won eleven competitive Learning and Teaching grants. She is currently working with an LTI grant developing ePortfolios for technical subjects in the Bachelor of Design. She has undertaken leadership roles as Chair of the Accreditation Panel for the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA), elected Council Member for the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and was appointed by the Planning Minister as a Board Member for the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV). She has been a Competition Advisor for the AIA and member of many award juries and selection panels. She received the Victorian NAWIC Award of Excellence for Innovation in Construction and is a winner of the AIA Sisalation Prize.
