Dr Paul (Long) Cheng graduated from Lincoln University (New Zealand's specialist land-based university), New Zealand in 2008, with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours. In 2009 Dr Cheng commenced his PhD, investigating the use of nitrogen isotopic fractionation as a biomarker to indicate nitrogen use efficiency of ruminants, graduating in 2013 from Lincoln University, New Zealand.

Dr Cheng then took up a part time lecturer position to teach livestock production system course, before commencing a postdoc position with The Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust (AGMARDT) in New Zealand to investigate the use of forage herbs for dairy heifer production. Dr Cheng conducted research projects in Australia and New Zealand and also collaborated with 12 institutions from seven countries (China, New Zealand, UK, Bangladesh, France, Ireland, Kenya) over the past five years. Dr Cheng presented his research at numerous conferences and meetings internationally. Dr Cheng published 56 refereed journal articles, covering studies ranging from monogastric to ruminant, from nutrition to genetics, from livestock management to robotic dairy milking system. Dr Cheng is an associate editor for Animal Biology and a publishing committee member for Animal (Cambridge), and also in the editorial board of Journal of Dairy Research (Cambridge). Dr Cheng successfully supervised 10 scholars to complete their postgraduate degrees, visiting scholarship and internship training over the last 5 years. Dr Cheng is currently supervising 2 PhD and 1 Master degree students. As a Lecturer in Livestock Nutrition and Grazing Management and subject coordinator of Systems Biology, Animal Systems, and Ecology and Grazing Management; Dr Cheng is committed to provide high quality teaching and supervision to students and equip them with practical skills to be successful in their future career.
