Dr. Garud is a Senior Lecturer in Management in the Department of Management and Marketing, Faculty of Business & Economics at University of Melbourne.

She is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Business & Economics and Change Management Theme Coordinator for the Building CRC 4.0 initiative at U. of Melbourne. She works in several interdisciplinary management research projects with industry partners. Niharika’s interests for research, teaching, executive education, engagement and industry collaborations lie in the areas of technology and innovation management, organizational psychology, judgment and decision-making, creativity, entrepreneurship, behavioral strategy and operations, R&D management (management of scientists, product development teams and processes, innovation labs) and engineering management.

Niharika conducts research, engagement and consulting projects with private as well as public sector, startups, non-profits and government agencies. Her collaboration partners include multiple Fortune 500 organizations, government departments and agencies, research laboratories (such as CSIRO), industry associations, organizations, startups, small & medium enterprises in technology, hitech, manufacturing, mining and software IT sectors among others. Niharika teaches a variety of subjects and coursework in management, innovation, entrepreneurship and organizational psychology, including New Value Creation, Team Management, Leadership, Decision Analysis & Project Management, Management of Service Supply Chains. She speaks extensively about her research and industry collaborations at academic conferences and industry events.

Prior to Melbourne, Niharika worked as a faculty member at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and Xavier School of Management. Niharika completed her PhD in Management at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and predoctoral research fellowship at Harvard University and Harvard Business School, where she researched how behaviors and decisions of R&D scientists and product development managers impact innovative outcomes and efficiencies in their research labs and product development divisions. She completed a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia in USA, researching chemical vapor deposition processes in semiconducting manufacturing and nanotechnology and worked for Micron Technology Inc. (Fortune 500 firm) as an engineer in their Virginia, USA fabrication site.
